Co-creating a truly innovative space with the community.

A business college was preparing to open a brand new building. They had designated a space called the Innovation Commons, which they envisioned as a gathering place for both students and professionals. To ensure its success, they involved their stakeholders in a design thinking process to create this future space.

Empowering a diverse workforce to create an equalizing experience.

A large food manufacturing company was struggling with the cultural, socioeconomic, and physical gap between their office and factory employees. Through a design thinking process that involved everyone, they uncovered challenges and came up with solutions to create a better experience for everyone.

Defining a unique culture and its impact on business.

As an innovative technology company prepared to move into its own campus, they wanted to know more about how their employees viewed the company and its culture today. What did they want to keep? What needed to change? By conducting ethnographic research at the organization, they were able to start mapping out their future.

Addressing the gap between perception and utilization in the workplace.

How do you ensure that a state-of-the-art building is being used in state-of-the-art ways? By collecting qualitative and quantitative data with a team of design researchers, I was able to identify where what people felt or thought was happening were not always lining up with how the space was being used.

Before Elise, there was no structure or formal framework we were working with. She not only established the process we needed, she did it with grace and grit that leveraged her team and made them better in the process. She has the ability to keep her mind on business drivers as well as the well being of employees.

Strategies for communication and collaboration

Digging into how we talk to each other and work with each other can be an extremely valuable way to both identify current challenges and address them. By using design thinking methods and improv as a starting point, I leave groups ready to tackle their next big project with a shared toolkit of techniques.
